NOL Plus Rewards

NOL Plus is RTA's rewards programme for NOL card holders, listed in the NOL section of rta.ae next to Choose nol and nol fares. Rewards attach to a person rather than to a piece of plastic, so the starting point is a card in your name: AED 30 to register a Silver or Gold card, or a Blue Personal card at AED 70. RTA publishes no points table on those public pages, which is worth knowing before you read an earn rate somewhere else.

What NOL Plus is

NOL Plus is the loyalty layer on top of the card you already tap. RTA runs it alongside the rest of the NOL family, and the same account that holds your cards, your travel passes and your trip history is where a rewards balance belongs.

That is also its limit. A card nobody owns cannot collect anything, so an anonymous Silver or Gold card bought over the counter for AED 25 has no route into a rewards programme until it is registered. Registration costs AED 30 and takes minutes in the NOL Pay app.

Be careful with what you read about earn rates. The figures circulating on other sites trace back to press coverage from several years ago, and RTA's current public NOL pages carry no points table at all, so check the official NOL Plus page or ask on 800 9090 before you plan around a number.

What a registered card demonstrably gives you is on record: a balance that can be blocked and refunded, a ceiling of AED 5,000 instead of AED 1,000, the 30, 90 and 365 day travel passes, and a month of trip history in your RTA account. Rewards, if they apply to you, ride on top of that list rather than replacing it. Points collect on ordinary Dubai commutes, Deira to DIFC or Business Bay to Expo City alike.

How to join

Start with the card. A Silver or Gold card is registered through the NOL Pay app with an NFC read, on rta.ae or at a customer happiness centre, and residents sign in through UAE Pass. The fee is AED 30 and the card keeps its colour, its fares and its plastic afterwards.

A Blue Personal card at AED 70 arrives personalised, with AED 20 of credit on it, and is the version to choose if you also qualify for a concession. Students aged 5 to 23 and seniors from 60 pay AED 1.50 to AED 3.75 a trip on one.

Once the card is in your name, everything else lives in the RTA account: the card list, the month of transaction history, the top up records and the rewards side. RTA allows up to 5 personal or registered cards per person, so a household can sit under one login.

Concession cards carry an extra condition. RTA allows 1 active concession card per person and issues it against proof that is renewed every year, so a student or senior card runs 1 year at a time rather than the 5 years a standard card gets.

What the card spends in a normal month

Rewards programmes follow spending, so it helps to see where a NOL card actually spends. Fares are the bulk of it, AED 3 inside one zone and AED 7.50 across more than two on a Silver card, doubled on metro and tram for a Gold card at AED 6 to AED 15.

The card is not only a fare, though. It pays at public parking meters, on water buses, ferries and abras, and at about 2,000 retail outlets with a ceiling of AED 200 on any single shop transaction. All of it comes out of the same balance, which tops out at AED 5,000 on a registered card.

A two zone commute twice a day is AED 5 each way before any transfer rule applies. Our fare calculator prices a specific pair of stations so you can see the real monthly figure rather than an average.

The savings that are published

Points are the uncertain part of this page. The discounts RTA does publish are not, and they are worth more than any loyalty scheme is likely to return. A concession on a Blue card halves every fare, and a travel pass replaces fares altogether for anyone commuting five days a week.

A 30 day all zones pass is AED 350 against AED 230 for two zones and AED 140 for one, so the zones you actually cross decide most of the bill. The break even point for each pass is worked out here, in trips rather than in vague advice.

There is also a daily ceiling of AED 20 on a Silver or Blue card and AED 40 on Gold. RTA last published it in its 2014 tariff revision and it does not appear on the current fares page, so treat it as a guide rather than a promise.

The transfer rule is the quiet saving nobody advertises. Legs taken within 30 minutes of each other count as one journey, up to 3 transfers and 180 minutes in total, so a bus to the metro is one fare rather than two if you keep moving.

Why the programme may change

RTA is midway through rebuilding NOL around accounts instead of chips. Dubai Media Office put the upgrade at 72 per cent complete on 5 July 2026, with the remaining phases due by the end of the first quarter of 2027, and the published scope covers QR tickets, account linked cards and payment at the gate with bank cards and phone wallets.

A rewards programme built on identity gets easier when every trip is already tied to an account. Expect the terms of NOL Plus to be restated as that work lands, which is another reason to confirm the current rules with RTA rather than with a blog post.

Nothing about the fare table changes in the meantime. A Silver card still pays AED 3 to AED 7.50 by zone, still needs AED 7.50 to open a gate, and still runs for 5 years before its grace period starts. Until then the order of operations stays the same: register the card, price a pass against the trips you actually make, and treat any rewards as the last item on the list.

Why the programme may change

What we will not tell you about NOL Plus

We are not going to quote an earn rate. RTA's public NOL pages do not carry one, the numbers repeated elsewhere come from old coverage, and a rewards rate is exactly the kind of detail that changes quietly. Everything on this page that carries a figure comes from RTA's fares, cards and services pages instead.

The practical advice stands without the points. Register the card for AED 30, because it protects a balance of up to AED 5,000 and opens the passes, and let any rewards be a bonus rather than the reason.

Frequently asked questions

What is NOL Plus?

It is RTA's rewards programme for NOL card holders, listed in the NOL section of rta.ae. Rewards are tied to an identity, so a card registered in your name is the entry point, from AED 30 on a Silver or Gold card.

How do I register for NOL Plus?

Register the card first, through the NOL Pay app, on rta.ae or at a customer happiness centre with an Emirates ID. The same RTA account then holds the card, its month of history and the rewards side, for up to 5 cards.

How many points does a trip earn?

RTA does not publish a points table on its public NOL pages, so we do not quote one. Check the official NOL Plus page or call 800 9090 for the current terms before planning around a rate you read elsewhere.

Can an anonymous NOL card earn rewards?

No, because RTA cannot attribute it to anyone. Registration costs AED 30 and also lifts the balance ceiling from AED 1,000 to AED 5,000.

What saves more than rewards points?

A travel pass or a concession. A 30 day all zones pass is AED 350, and a student or senior on a Blue card pays AED 1.50 to AED 3.75 a trip against AED 3 to AED 7.50 on a standard card.

Will NOL Plus change with RTA's system upgrade?

Probably. The account based ticketing programme was reported at 72 per cent complete in July 2026 with remaining phases due by the end of the first quarter of 2027, and it moves fares from the chip to an account, which is where a loyalty scheme naturally sits.
